Explore fun and colorful felting techniques(wet and needle) to turn wool fleece into 2 and 3 dimensional forms. Learn how to create structural armatures, blend colors, use different tools and integrate mixed media. possible subject matter could be, but is not limited to animals, birds, fanciful creatures and figurative or abstract sculpture. No experience necessary for this fun and dynamic medium.

Fire and Fleece:Combining Glass and Felt April 18&19, 2015

Create colorful jewelry combining handmade glass beads and felted wool. This will be a fun & colorful workshop for experienced* glass bead makers eager to try a new combination of mediums! 
Day One:
 We will meet in Jennifer’s personal glass studio on the lower level of Sanctuary Arts. Students will learn how to create a variety of hollow and large holed beads and glass headpins. 
Day Two:
 Students will then explore a variety of wet and needle felting techniques to turn soft short fiber merino wool fleece and into a variety of forms (cords, sheet felt and beads) to create a necklace, bracelet or brooch around their beads.

PLEASE NOTE: *This is for students who have some experience making glass beads.

In this fun & colorful two day workshop students will explore a variety of wet and needle felting techniques to “sculpt” wool fleece into a woodland creature of their choice, like a fawn, fox, chipmunk, rabbit, squirrel or a fanciful creature. Day One: We will focus on creating wire skeletons(armatures), animal proportions and sculpting our base in natural undyed wool fleece, using sharp barbed needles. Day Two: We will focus on color, special fleece selection,application and finishing details in this amazing and colorful sculptural medium. This is a beginner friendly class. Some felting or sculptural experience is helpful but not necessary.
