Create colorful jewelry combining handmade glass beads and felted wool. This will be a fun & colorful workshop for experienced* glass bead makers eager to try a new combination of mediums!
Day One: We will meet in Jennifer’s personal glass studio on the lower level of Sanctuary Arts. Students will learn how to create a variety of hollow and large holed beads and glass headpins.
Day Two: Students will then explore a variety of wet and needle felting techniques to turn soft short fiber merino wool fleece and into a variety of forms (cords, sheet felt and beads) to create a necklace, bracelet or brooch around their beads.
PLEASE NOTE: *This is for students who have some experience making glass beads.

FELTING NATURE: Woodland Creatures

In this fun & colorful two day workshop students will explore a variety of wet and needle felting techniques to “sculpt” wool fleece into a woodland creature of their choice, like a fawn, fox, chipmunk, rabbit, squirrel or a fanciful creature. Day One: We will focus on creating wire skeletons(armatures), animal proportions and sculpting our base in natural undyed wool fleece, using sharp barbed needles. Day Two: We will focus on color, special fleece selection,application and finishing details in this amazing and colorful sculptural medium. This is a beginner friendly class. Some felting or sculptural experience is helpful but not necessary. FELTING NATURE: Birds & Flowers

Students will explore a variety of wet and needle felting techniques to turn wool fleece into a variety of 2 & dimensional forms. DAY ONE we will focus on wet felting. Students will create beautiful flowers, leaves, sheet felt, ropes and core shapes we will use on day two. DAY TWO we will focus on needle felting. Students will assemble a small sculptural bird using needle felting techniques and the core shapes they created (day one) Handmade copper feet and glass eyes created by the instructor will be provided. Some felting(wet and/or needle) or sculptural experience is helpful but not necessary. This is a beginner friendly class, using birds and flowers as a fun jumping off point, but hopefully students will gain the confidence to take on larger future felting projects.
I will be heading to steamy Texas to teach a felted bird class at Living Felt in Austin, Texas July 12 & 13. I will then drive to Houston for my annual ISGB (International Society of Glass Beadmakers) Gathering. A fun week of hanging out with my favorite people, taking classes, demos, shopping for new tools of my trade and on saturday July 19th come see me at our Bead Bazaar at Hyatt Regency, Houston 10-5 I will be showcasing my glass beads, jewelry and felted sculpture. My piece Tidal Pool will be part of the RAD(radically artistic in design) show on display during the conference.
Come learn how to create a beautiful sculpted bird using needle and wet felted wool techniques. Students will learn how to make basic wet felted cores and felt sheets for wings and assemble the bird using needle felting. You will be amazed at the detail you can achieve with little to no felting experience. This is a faced paced and very satisfying class! Great for a crafty beginner!
